Nearly a year after her 2023 death, Suzanne Somers’ widower shared that her spirit visits and reminds him that she is still around. Alan Hamel, who was married to Somers for 55 years, believes in the afterlife because of these supernatural experiences and says they’re comforting to him.
The late actress and wellness expert, who died at 76 after a long battle with breast cancer, seems to have been making her presence known to Hamel in recent months. He opened up to Fox News Digital about some recent “unusual” occurrences in the house he and Somers lived in together before her death.
Unusual events

More than once, Hamel has felt Somers’ presence as he’s drifting off to sleep in the evening. “When I go to bed at night, during that time when you’re not asleep yet, that’s when I really feel Suzanne’s presence to the point where it’s palpable,” he recounted. “I remember one night I was so positive she was in bed with me. I reached over just to check, and of course, she wasn’t there.”
Another time, he was in the kitchen when Somers’ favorite song began playing over the audio system, which was not turned on. The song, sung “by a performer no one’s ever heard of,” is one that Hamel says he and Somers used to listen to as they danced together in that same kitchen.
Other unexplained events include a fireplace turning on by itself for an hour, and a hummingbird flying into the house and flitting near a photo of Hamel and Somers. The same bird returned for another visit weeks later, according to Hamel. This time, it flew into his waiting hands. “The hummingbird jumps into my hands, and she tucks in her little feet. All I felt was her belly. She felt safe,” he said.
Iconic career

An actress and model, Suzanne Somers shot to fame as Chrissy Snow in the 1970s/80s sitcom Three’s Company, alongside co-stars John Ritter and Joyce DeWitt. After departing the show due to a pay dispute, Somers initially struggled to maintain the popularity she had enjoyed with the sitcom.
She eventually returned to television on shows like Step by Step, Candid Camera, and The Suzanne Show. Somers also found success as a product pitchwoman, making it into the
Infomercial Hall of Fame for her work promoting Thighmaster exercise equipment. She authored more than 20 books and developed a line of organic lifestyle products.
A ‘higher power’

After fighting breast cancer for 23 years, Suzanne Somers passed away at home with Hamel at her side. He later told NBC that they had spent her final days talking, when he noticed that her breathing had changed. “There was no response except when I kissed her, she responded, and then around 5 o’clock in the morning, she was gone,” he recalled.
While some people might be unnerved by the strange string of recent events in their shared home, Alan Hamel is comforted by the thought of his beloved wife returning to say hello. “[Suzanne and I] were both very spiritual and we both believed there was a higher power,” he said. “I absolutely believe there is an afterlife. I do believe that when my time comes to expire, Suzanne will be waiting for me.”
